Parenting Through Crisis with Mindfulness and Balance
A free 6 week course will be offered Saturdays, March 28 – May 2
Participants will need their own copy of When the Whole World Tips: Parenting Through Crisis with Mindfulness and Balance, available through your local bookstore, Parallax Press, or wherever books are sold.
Parenting and caregiving through crisis asks something almost impossible: to stay open, steady, and loving when we are overwhelmed, frightened, or heartbroken. An unfixable situation can overtake our lives and feel like it has taken all our joy and resilience with it.
Dealing with crises with my own children, encountering the profound teachings of impermanence, suffering, and the impersonal nature of it all, gave me a chance to commit to presence as a way to reclaim the power that unfixable situations can take away.
Rooted in Buddhist wisdom, this cohort explores a path where we don't have to choose between feeling deeply and staying present. Where we can hold our grief, our fear, and our helplessness in an ever-expanding heart, one that grows large enough to contain our own suffering and the suffering of those we love. Through meditation and innovative practices, we'll work together to restore your sense of agency, to enlarge your capacity to be present for yourself and for others, and to return you to your life more empowered.
Each Saturday, we'll gather on Zoom for 90 minutes of guided practice, Dharma sharing, and small and large group connection. Between sessions, at-home practices will carry the learning into your daily life. This is a community, not a course, intimate, participatory, and authentic.
This offering is for:
Parents and caregivers navigating a difficult family situation
Therapists, social workers, and mental health practitioners
Plum Village and NVC practitioners and mindfulness educators
Anyone whose heart is asking: what can I do?
Two cohorts are available:
Saturday mornings, 10:00–11:30 am EST
Saturday afternoons, 1:00–2:30 pm EST / 10:00–11:30 am PST
Space is limited. A waitlist will be available, and a second cohort will follow in the Spring.
